BP9: Prototype Session SOLO
Just a little self-initiative #Because Why Not?
6th July 2019
Remember the NatureBloom X?
Yeah, the one with the beautiful red rose within a transparent glass pot.
As I had some free time and had the resources, I went ahead to test a way to make a more premium/upscale version of the previous product.
One thing about me. Naturally I'm attracted to lights. No, not the glaring sun! I meant lit products that make good use of light to elevate their designs. For example, the "Cool" Gaming laptops of today always feature RGB lighting. Contrary to popular belief, lights do not make the laptop run faster. But it is nice to look at, and so people are willing to pay more for it.
Our new batch of LED string Lights (which we bought from the same supplier, since he sent reliable products) came within this week. At the same time, i was holding the glue gun, stones, roses, pot and grass - Perfect storm to get cracking and make a new product :D
And so I went on to do it.
We bought a "Sample Pack" of glow-in-the-dark stones to try and incorperate in our products
Practice does make perfect
In my previous post, I shared my concerns about building these flower products on a more larger scale, as they not only took skill, but also a pretty unreasonable amount of time to make. For certain designs, in our minds they may seem beautiful, but in reality, it was very difficult to recreate the design because we had to find suitable ways to "stick" the product in the right places and ensure they do not go out of position during handling or logistics. For the product you saw in the previous post, it took me about 2 hours (perhaps slightly longer) to get the product to finally look the way it should
However, as i worked on my new "upscaled" product, I realized that I needed much less time to create the product as the "knowledge" to re-create the product in a more efficient way was already there. As a result, Including "set-up" time of about 15 minutes, It took me just 40 minutes to get the rose to stay together with the grass - a huge time saving.
I then began to incorporate the LED Lights. As this was the first time i was doing it, it took multiple attempts of wiring, removing and re-attempting to get the lights to light up the decorative piece in an elegant manner. It was also slightly nerve-wrecking to do re-wiring as it meant that the rose was being handled with more than it should. Fortunately it worked out well in the end.
As for the Stones, rather than using the standard white stones, I experimented using the Glow in the dark stones, to see if it would pair well with the lights. For this model, I used some of the green glow-in-the-dark stones.
Securing the premium rose into place takes some work, but the look makes it worth the effort!
The results look pretty stunning (We think!)
In the day, it looks pretty much like a prettier version of our previous product, The NatureBloom X. The jar being used here is bigger, and it accommodates the bigger rose well!
However, One slight issue we have is that the grass bed does not come into good contact with the glow in the dark stones. I'm Still finding a solution for this...
But in the meantime, I am pretty happy with how it looks like when it's secret weapon is on: The LED Lights.
The LED Lights give a subtle enhancement to the look in the day. In the dark, it mimics the feel you might get when walking by a flower garden in the night, with lights focused on illuminating the street
Overall this prototype session was a success. Meanwhile, I'll be finding for a way to get the stones and rose to "gel" together better in actual product releases.
Other things we have done since the last blog post:
➡️Since the last blog post of mine, we have done the following as well:
➡️Kimmy found a competitor that is selling dried flowered designs massed produced from china. This was a route which our group was tempted to do, but we didn't do so as even though it was cheap, there was a lack of unique selling point, furthermore, the MOQ was quite high (at least 50 orders). thus we did not persue this in the end.
➡️I suggested creating DIY products to go around the logistical issues our company faces when we deliver our finished products. However Sindy suggested that we should continue creating finished products with a good story behind it, as it would create more value for our products.
